Short Breaks for Carers Group (Saturday Group)
The Saturday Group provides a range of opportunities for South Asian adults who have a disability or life limiting or life threatening conditions from both our centre in Smethwick and in the local community. The group is funded by the Carers Grant from Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and the aim of the fund is to give carers a short break from their caring responsibilities.
During the Saturday sessions the people who use our service use our centre in Smethwick as a base and with support (and this includes one-to-one and two-to-one support where required) access many facilities in the locality. In addition to the activities noted above for the Apni Kushi Group this year the Saturday Group have been to restaurants for meals, been to the theatre, played football, had relaxation sessions in our sensory room, had an introduction to horse riding, visited the Independent Living Centre, music therapy, been bowling and visited the German Market.
The Saturday Group is run in line with the Putting People First Agenda and in particular focuses on creating opportunities for adults with disabilities to develop positive relationships and promotes independent living.
