LIAISON AND OUTREACH OFFICER (PART TIME)

Hours – between 11.5hrs and 25hrs per week
Salary: £20,144 pro rata (scale 5 SP22)
FIXED TERM CONTRACT UNTIL MARCH 2011

Do you have good communication skills? Have experience of completing benefit forms? Have knowledge and understanding of the different benefits adults with disabilities and their families are entitled to?

We are looking for an experienced individual to provide advice, advocacy and practical support to South Asian adults with disabilities and their families. Our project, funded by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), supports South Asian families to access a range of HMRC products, including Tax Credits, Child Benefit and Child Trust Funds.

An NVQ level 2 in Advice and Guidance is an advantage and training will be given where required. It is essential that you are able to communicate in one of the main South Asian languages spoken in Sandwell and neighbouring boroughs.

A key aspect of this post is to promote independence, well being and choice, ensuring the adults individual needs are at the forefront at all times.

The post is based at our office in Smethwick and will involve making home visits and accompanying families to appointments. You will be also be liaising with professional individuals and agencies and a professional approach must be undertaken at all times.

Sandwell Asian Family Support Service (SAFSS) is an independent organisation that provides a range of quality care and support services and opportunities to enable South Asian children (aged 0-18 years) and young people (aged 18-40 years) with disabilities and/or life threatening conditions and their families to enhance their quality of life.
