ME TOO!

SAFSS are pleased to announce that they will be participating in the pilot of the me2 award in Sandwell.

The award, developed by Mencap, is a kite mark that recognises, promotes and celebrates inclusive play, leisure and childcare settings for all children and young people. This quality award will complement the Quality in Play award which the Smiling Stars After School Club is currently working towards.

The pilot, managed by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) will inclue 9 childcare settings and the final assessment of the organisations will be by a Young Peoples Panel at SMBC.

A night of glamour with the stars!

Children and Young People with disabilities attended a night with the stars at Miss Bollywood UK. Supported by UK Premier Consulting and Miss Bollywood UK our families attended the Grand Final on Saturday 29th August where the top prize was a part in a Bollywood movie and a modelling contract.

Chief Executive Parpinder K Dhatt said:

“I would like to thank UK Premier Consulting and Miss Bollywood UK for giving our families the opportunity to attend this event. Families had a fantastic time and enjoyed an evening of glitz, glamour and entertainment. Several of our young people had the opportunity to meet the Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala and got her autograph which was a real treat.

The catwalk was stunning and vibrant and everyone at SAFSS would like to congratulate the new Miss Bollywood UK, Reena Patel.”

SAFSS Volunteer and Board Member Sanjiv Verma who attended with his wife and carer said ” It was a nice evening and I met Michelle Collins and had my photo taken with her.”

The event hosted by Raj and Pablo, was judged by panel that included former Eastenders star Michelle Collins, Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Joseph Marcell, actress Manisha Koirala, international fashion designer Rohit Verma and Miss Universe UK 2008 Lisa Lazarus. Performances from Taz (Stereo Nation), comedian Mani Liaquat and Bollywood dance artist Hakilee made the evening a night to remember.

Successful daytrip to Legoland

Over 200 of our children, young people and adults along with their parents and carers took part in SAFSS annual daytrip on 29th July. This year we visited Legoland and everyone had a fantastic time. The torrential downpour of rain on arrival in Windsor did not dampen our spirits and as the day wore on the appearance of the sun made for a wonderful day!

Chief Executive Parpinder K Dhatt said ” I would like to thank all the staff who worked so hard to organise our day trip to Legoland. The annual daytrip is very important to SAFSS and our families always look forward to it. We have had a wonderful time and families are already asking where we are going next year.”

Every year SAFSS needs to raise £4,500 to pay to hire specially adapted coaches and associated costs. Please contact Claire Bradshaw on (0121) 558 2198 or devmgt.safss@btconnect.com if you are interested in sponsoring our daytrip for 2010.
